After a gap of almost 15 years, passengers waiting for trains at Hexham Station, can now get a hot or cold drink and a snack on the platform.

It has long been a aspiration of the Tyne Valley CRP to get the kiosk reopened and they finally did it on the 7th November 2011

The CRP are working with Mencap, Dilston College (near Corbridge) to  offer students from the college the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by working in  a real commercial environment.

John Gillott, Partnership Officer said, "we are absolutely delighted to be working with Mencap, Dilston College on this unique initiative, giving students a chance to work with the public and at the same time raise funds for the joint venture, supporting both the college and the Partnership"

Utilising funds from the Railway Heritage Fund and the Big Lottery, with support from Northumberland County Council and Northern Rail, the conversion of the redundant , derelict space at the station offers refreshments for the first time in about 15 years, an major improvement to the travelling experience  and a genuine social enterprise for the people of the Tyne valley.
